CAF also supported out-of-school children through the Kit-A-Kid initiative, providing essential learning materials to promote school enrollment, retention, and participation among children from vulnerable households.

B. Community Health & Wellbeing

CAF implemented community-based health interventions focused on prevention, awareness, and dignity, with particular attention to the health needs of women and girls.

In collaboration with ICare Development Initiative and students from the University of Abuja, CAF conducted menstrual hygiene awareness sessions in Government Secondary School Iddo, aimed at improving knowledge, reducing stigma, and promoting safe and healthy practices among 100 young girls in underserved communities.

These initiatives contributed to improved health awareness and supported girls’ continued participation in education and community life. Some notable events include:

• Awareness and sensitization for 3 schools (Well Bred Academy, Seat of Wisdom School, CKC School, Wassa) with over 55 young girls during the International day of the girl child event in Wassa, Community, FCT Abuja.

Activities under this thematic area included empowerment-focused support for widows, skills-building opportunities, and confidence-enhancing engagements that recognized women as agents of change within their families and communities. D. Humanitarian Assistance & Basic Needs Support

CAF responded to urgent humanitarian needs among displaced and vulnerable populations through the provision of food and non-food items. These interventions addressed immediate survival needs while upholding dignity and compassion in service delivery.

Humanitarian assistance was provided to displaced families and host communities affected by conflict and displacement, helping to stabilize households and alleviate hardship during periods of acute need.

E. Peacebuilding & Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB)

CAF advanced peacebuilding efforts by promoting Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities. Programming in 2025 targeted women across different walks of life, including teachers, academics, and community leaders, equipping them to serve as advocates for dialogue, tolerance, and social cohesion.

Program Expansion: Entry into Ijaha Community, Benue State

In 2025, Civitas Auxilium Foundation (CAF) strategically expanded its community-based interventions to Ijaha Community in Benue State, marking an important milestone in the Foundation’s commitment to reaching underserved and conflict-affected populations through locally grounded, needs-driven programming.

Community Entry and Engagement Process

CAF’s entry into Ijaha Community was preceded by deliberate community engagement and consultation. Initial interactions were conducted with community leaders, women representatives, and key stakeholders to build trust, understand local dynamics, and ensure that planned interventions were culturally appropriate and community-owned. These engagements laid the foundation for transparent collaboration and fostered acceptance of CAF’s presence within the community.

Needs Assessment

A rapid community needs assessment was carried out to identify priority areas of intervention, with a particular focus on women, widows, and displaced households. The assessment revealed significant gaps in adult literacy, limited access to basic educational opportunities for women, economic vulnerability among female-headed households,

and inadequate access to health information, particularly around menstrual hygiene. Food insecurity and lack of basic household items were also identified as recurring challenges affecting the wellbeing of families.

The assessment process combined informal interviews, group discussions, and observational visits, allowing CAF to capture both expressed needs and underlying structural vulnerabilities within the community.

Program Design and Initial Interventions

Based on findings from the needs assessment, CAF designed context-specific interventions aligned with its thematic focus areas. Priority was given to adult literacy as a foundational empowerment tool, leading to the enrollment of 50 women into adult literacy classes in Ijaha Community. To support effective program delivery, CAF onboarded five volunteer teachers, strengthening local capacity and ensuring continuity of learning.

In addition to education-focused interventions, CAF extended humanitarian assistance to vulnerable households through food and non-food item support, addressing immediate basic needs while longer-term empowerment programs were being established.

Community Ownership and Capacity Building

A key objective of CAF’s expansion strategy was to promote community ownership. Local volunteers and community members were actively involved in program implementation, monitoring, and feedback processes. This participatory approach strengthened trust, improved program relevance, and enhanced sustainability.

Outcomes and Early Impact

CAF’s entry into Ijaha Community resulted in increased access to learning opportunities for women, heightened awareness around health and hygiene issues, and improved community confidence in external support structures. The presence of structured

programs also contributed to renewed hope and social cohesion among participants, particularly women who had previously been excluded from educational opportunities.

Looking Ahead

Building on the successes of the 2025 community entry activities, CAF plans to deepen its engagement in Ijaha Community by scaling adult literacy programs, introducing livelihood-focused initiatives, strengthening health education, and expanding humanitarian support as resources allow. Ijaha Community remains a priority location for CAF’s long-term programming and partnership development in Benue State.
